AeroSystems completes first full-service bellmouth project

ASE Holdings reached another milestone with the completion of its first full-service bellmouth project. Thanks to our previous experience with various test nacelle components, AeroSystems was given the opportunity to showcase and extend our unique capabilities in the test nacelle market.

We designed, manufactured and tested the bellmouth and FOD screen for a military helicopter engine production facility. AeroSystems also supplied additional components, including a combination thrust stand/test bed and an ASE2000LX control and instrumentation system.

AeroSystems used CFD and FEA to determine flow lines needed for bellmouth design and verification of airflow quality and structural integrity. AeroSystems also designed and built, with the support of the FluiDyne aerotest lab, the total pressure rakes used to define flow coefficients for bellmouth assembly during flow testing conducted at the FluiDyne lab. The rakes were also used during the first engine runs on location.

“This project was the perfect fit for ASE Holdings because it allowed us to expand our typical product line through the combined efforts of AeroSystems and the FluiDyne lab,” said Grant Radinzel, VP of Product Management & Development.

This combined effort has allowed ASE Holdings to expand its test nacelle product line and become a full-service supplier. Most recently, AeroSystems further expanded its test nacelle capabilities to include on-site tap testing. This service is performed during scheduled maintenance visits to detect delamination in composite structures. If required, refurbishment can be performed either in the field or through our strategic manufacturing partner.
